We have been ranked the past 3 years and this year we rose to #2 in all of Orange County. The rankings for All of Southern California were also released and we came in at #5 on this list. Below is the write up for the Orange County rankings. Just another example of how great this school is.
2016 So Cal Sidelines OC Student Section Rankings
- University of Irvine’s Trojan Army
The Trojan Army is one of the most organized student sections you will ever see. The stadium is always filled with banners and there isn’t an open spot in the stands. The Trojan Army goes all out. They even have the fog machine like “The U,” aka the University of Miami. This U brings it’s A game every week.
“The Trojan Army has done an amazing job supporting our athletic teams and has proven to be the leader when it comes to school spirit,” University athletic director Kevin McCaffrey said. “There is nothing like game day at UNI. We have Trojan Army days where students wear their Trojan Army shirts to school. Nobody puts on a show like the Trojan Army does. The Trojan Army is known for packing our stadium. All students wear their Trojan Army shirts to create a sea of blue. Our entrance is the best around. We use our custom U arch and tunnel, a 20-foot run through banner, cryo jets, three large field runner flags, air siren, fog machine and blue smoke bombs. Once the games get going our kids go crazy all game. There is nothing like game day at UNI and we are happy to say that WE ARE TROJAN ARMY STRONG!”

The Trojan Army jams the stands and goes all out. Fog machines in the stands and an inflatable “The U” entrance the football players enter the field from. The leaders of the Trojan Army are on point and make sure they have their ‘A’ game at home games. I covered a game last year at University and noticed the Trojan Army running in the press box with walkie talkies, making sure the audio was on point and ready. Nothing gets by these guys.
Way to go Trojan Army!
Let’s take a look at how our teams are doing
The Boys Basketball Team is hard at work practicing and getting ready for their upcoming tournaments. The JV team is competing in the Segerstrom Tournament this week, the Frosh/Soph team is participating in the Dana Hills Tournament and Varsity is gearing up for the Corona Del Mar Tournament next week.
The Uni Girls basketball started off their season by hosting an Alumni game. The alumni team was victorious but all Trojans had fun. It was so great to see players from past years back in their gym playing the sport they love. The Lady Trojans opened the preseason with a loss to Dana Hills. Karissa Shin led scores with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Malia Goldsmith added 12 points. They got their first win over Yorba Linda in the first game of our University South Coast Classic on Monday. Kaci Blailock led all scores with 18 points. Uni will host Tesoro on Wednesday and continue their tournament this week.
Boys soccer opened preseason with a 1-0 win over Brea Olinda. Goal from sophomore Luis Moros and assist from senior Julian Ricci. Completed dominated possession and shots on goal in a very good performance. Sophomore keeper Jimmy Choi with the shutout. Great way to start the year. The boys will be travelling to Huntington Beach this Friday (12/2) to take on the Oilers. Good luck boys!
The Girls Soccer team is opening their preseason with a game against Mater Dei today (Dec. 1). Please come out and support the girls in their first game of the season! Both Varsity and JV are playing at Uni at 3:15 p.m. Good luck girls!
Girls Water Polo:
Girls water polo season is under way. The lady Trojans played their first non-league contest Tuesday Nov 29th at Ocean View H.S. losing 8-4, it’s ok as it was their first time playing as a full team in a real game since the end of last season with many new starters. The girls varsity will be back in action Dec 9-10 @ Irvine H.S. during the El Nino tournament.
The Wrestling team has been practicing hard preparing for their upcoming season. They will be competing in the Corona Del Mar Varsity Tournament this Saturday (12/3).
