Girls Soccer:

The girl’s soccer team is in the Quarter Finals of CIF.  This amazing achievement is attributed to the commitment the players have to the team.  The level of play that the team is displaying cannot be described in words.  In the second round of CIF against Pacifica, their coach said after the game “that was like playing against the Manchester United Women’s team”.  I encourage you to come witness it for yourself.  Friday, Feb. 24th at 5pm at the Stadium we will take on Temecula Valley High School in the Quarter Finals.  Come watch the likes of Senior Kiana Ghamarifard, Vicki Chen, Iva Petkov, Raeann Artim and Juniors like Paige Metayer, Emma Goolsby, and Leyna and Lauryn Wood, as they try and complete one of the best seasons that the soccer team has had in a decade.

Let’s take a look at how our teams are doing

Boys Basketball:

Tuesday night the Boys Basketball Team won at Irvine 65-30 to stay in the race for the third and final playoff spot in the Pacific Coast League.  Senior forward Ryan Pham scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace the Trojans.  Junior guard Alex Bray, the PCL’s leading scorer, added 15 while junior guard Kevin Yahampath scored eight points and dished off eight assists.  Senior guard Joe Christensen hit four three pointers and played good defense in shutting down Irvine’s leading scorer.  Last Friday, the Trojans fell to league leading Corona del Mar.  Alex Bray scored 21 points to lead the Trojans.

Tonight, 2/9, Uni will host Woodbridge, a team it has defeated twice this season.  If the Trojans win, they finish third and clinch a playoff spot.  If Woodbridge wins, Uni will play a third place playoff game on Friday.  Details would be announced on Friday morning.

Girls Basketball:

Come out and support the Lady Trojans for their last league game of the season tonight (2/9) at 5:30 PM v Woodbridge. It is going to be a great game!  Good luck ladies!

Boys Soccer:

Last Thursday the varsity team tied CDM 1-1. Goal by Luis Moros, his 11th of the year.  Assist by Pedro Palmaka, his 11th of the year.

On Tuesday we beat Irvine 2-0. Goals by Sam Kelley (2) his 7th and 8th.   Assists by Darious Abdollahi (2) his 8th and 9th .

Boys are now 15-1-2 on the year and Ranked #1 in the division by Max Preps.

We end League on Today, (2/9) in the stadium at 3:15 against Woodbridge, and then it’s on to CIF as hopefully one of the top 2 seeds in CIFSS.  Come out and support the team today at 3:15 in the Uni Stadium!  Good luck boys!

Girls Soccer:

The girls soccer team is finishing up the regular season with an amazing record.  Going into the last game of the regular season against Woodbridge, the girls varsity team is 13-7-2.  Almost double the amount of wins than last season and absolutely peaking in the style of play and quality of work rate.  The team is pumped and excited to enter the CIF playoffs and is determined to complete their team goal of reaching the 3rd round of the playoffs.  Wish us luck.

Come out and support the Girls today (2/9) in their Game of the Week v Woodbridge at 5:15 in the Uni Stadium! Good luck girls!

Winter Sports

Let’s take a look at how our teams are doing

Boys Basketball:

After winning three straight games the Boys Varsity basketball team dropped the last two games on the road losing at Beckman and Northwood.  Junior guard Alex Bray scored a season high 41 points against Beckman and continues to be one of the leading scorers in the county at 24.4 points a game.  Tomorrow night the Trojans host league leading Corona del Mar at 7:00 p.m.  The boys are currently in third place and are making a run at the CIF playoffs.  We hope to see you out at the game on Friday, Feb. 3rd. Next week the Trojans finish the regular season with games at Irvine on Tuesday and at home on Thursday against Woodbridge.  Uni defeated both teams in the first round and have beaten Woodbridge twice already this season.

Girls Basketball:

Congratulations to Coach Nicole Bradshaw for being selected to coach the Orange County All Star game this year. Our girls are lucky to have such a great leader!

The Lady Trojans take first in PCL play! The girls basketball team beat Beckman last Thursday night 61-48.  Four players reached double digit scoring in an all our team effort win.  Karissa Shin, Kaci Blailock, and Malia Goldsmith each had 11 points and Ashley Chandler led all scores with 15 points.  The ladies continued the winning streak against Northwood Tuesday night winning 54-39.  This was a real battle but the lady Trojans outscored the Timberwolves in the 4th quarter 18-5.  Malia Goldsmith led the charge with 20 points, Ashley Chandler added 11 points and Karissa Shin had 10 points.  Tomorrow night they take on the Sea Queens of Corona del Mar at 530pm.

Boys Soccer:

University shows its versatility in 5-0 triusoccer-2-2-17mph

The University boys soccer team doesn’t have one star on its roster, Coach Martin Wallwork said, but that just makes the Trojans more difficult to defend.

“Our goals are coming from all over the place,” Wallwork said. “It’s hard to come up with a game plan against us.”

On Tuesday, five players scored for University in a 5-0 Pacific Coast League victory against visiting Northwood.

The Trojans, ranked second in CIF-SS Division 4, have scored 51 goals in 16 games this season for a 3.18 goals per game average.

“It all comes from what we do in practice, the pattern play and combination play is about freeing players,” Wallwork said.

It only took three minutes for the Trojans (14-1-1, 6-1) to take the lead. That’s when Sam Kelley spun around his mark and guided a shot inside the left post. Sebastian Hertel extended the advantage to 2-0, volleying in a throw from Evan Mouchard in the 40th minute. It was Hertel’s team-leading 12th goal of the season.

Mouchard finished with two assists.

Lee McEligot, Pedro Palmaka and Faris Qaisi scored in the second half for University.

Noah Pham gave Northwood (9-5-2, 2-3-1) its best chance to avoid being shutout in the 35th minute when took aim at the far post, but his shot was just inches wide.

The Trojans have only allowed 10 goals this season.

“That shows we are doing something right here,” Wallwork said.

Girls Soccer:

Come out and support the girls today (2/2) as they take on Corona Del Mar in the Uni Stadium at 3:15. Good luck girls!

Congratulations to Kiana Ghamarifard for signing her National Letter of Intent yesterday. Kiana will be playing soccer at Boston University next year.  Way to go Kiana!

Girls Water Polo:

The Girls Water Polo team will take on Irvine next Tuesday, Feb. 7th at the Woollett Aquatics Center.  The Open team plays at 3:15, Varsity at 4:15 and JV at 5:15.  Come out and show your support!

Wrestling:

Our wrestling team is continuing to train and prepare for the CIF Individuals, which will be held in Temecula February 17th & 18th.  We had a great showing at League Finals with a handful of our wrestlers placing in the top 3 in their weight classes, qualifying them for the CIF Individuals.  Nice job!
