Winter Sports Update

Boys Basketball

Tomorrow night the Boys Varsity Basketball team will face Northwood in a big PCL showdown in the Uni gym at 7:00 p.m.  Last Saturday the Trojans played an excellent game and defeated La Salle High of Pasadena 95 – 87 at the East Los Angeles College Challenge.  Alex Bray scored 34 points and Kevin Yahampath added 26 to go along with eight assists.  Will Stenta scored ten points and grabbed 13 rebounds.  Tuesday University dropped a tough one, 85 – 70 at Beckman.  Bray finished with 33 points while Stenta recorded another double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.  The Trojans are second in the county in team scoring while Alex Bray is the leading individual scorer in Orange County averaging 28.1 points a game.  Kevin Yahampath is leading the county in assists with a 10.3 average.  Uni also leads the county in three points field goals with 246 made, an 11.7 average per game.  Please come out tomorrow to watch the boys play.  The Trojans currently have a 14 – 7 record.

Girls Basketball

The girls basketball team is currently 5-0 after finishing the first half of league play.  Last Thursday they beat cross town rival Woodbridge 52 to 41 with standout performances by Malia Goldsmith with 18 points and Ashley Chandler with 14 points.  Then the Lady Trojans travelled to Beckman Tuesday night to pull out a victory over the Patriots 46-41.  Ashley Chandler led all scores with 20 points, while Malia Goldsmith added 14 and Neeyaz Cyrus had 10 points and 14 rebounds.  Next they will take on Northwood at home on Friday night at 530pm.

Boys Soccer

The Uni Boys Soccer team defeated Beckman on Tuesday with a huge 4-0 win. The boys will take on Northwood away today, Jan. 25th.  The boys are now ranked #1 in the polls for Division 3 soccer.   Great job boys!

Girls Soccer

Girls had a tough loss on Tuesday against Beckman. We are hoping for a better result today against Northwood here at 3:15pm. Please come down and cheer us on.

Girls Water Polo

Last Thursday, the lady Trojans went against school rival, the Woodbridge Warriors.  At half Trojans were held to two goals, scored by Ysabel Nakasone and Angela Yan.  Entering the third quarter, and a score of 5-2, our Lady Trojans, led by Caitlyn Kissinger, and Maria Langlois scored 4 straight goals.  Following these goals, UNI had to focus on defense.  Great team defense and strong efforts by Senior goalie Anne Chen, Seniors Ali Huxman and Mabel Guo, and Yuuri Yoshikawa, Joy Chen, Anne Campbell, and Jasmine Choi, UNI successfully stopped Woodbridge from scoring again.  Angela Yan went on to spark 4 more unanswered goals bringing the final score to 5 Woodbridge – 10 UNI.

This past Tuesday, the lady Trojans traveled to Beckman and struggled against the speed and strength Woodbridge shows at home.  With home school advantage and a bigger pool, the patriots out performed UNI in a 12-5 loss.  The next time we match up will be at home with the ladies ready for a rematch.

Tonight, Trojans play Northwood at Home 4:15pm.  Come support our LADY TROJANS!!!

The wrestling team will compete in league finals this Saturday starting at 9:00am at Irvine High School.  Best of luck!
