Spring Sports Update

The U*N*I Baseball Team is 10 and 6 overall, 2 and 4 in PCL action.  The Trojans finish their 3 game series with CDM at Home this afternoon.   Next week the U*N*I Team competes against Northwood, away on Tuesday and home on Friday.

Boys Golf

The University HS Boys Golf team has 3 matches this week.  Tue and Wed against Beckman at Tustin Ranch Golf Course and CDM at Newport Beach Country Club respectively.  We lost close matches to both schools.  We lost to Beckman 207 to 204 and to CDM 194 to 192.  Both matches could have been won if it were not for some uncharacteristic mistakes on our part.  We definitely had our opportunities.  But on the bright side, we had personal bests performances from Nyle Wong.  It is encouraging to see him continue to develop as a player that can contribute to the team!

Connor O’Brien was the low medalist for University HS with scores of 38 and 35 at Tustin Ranch and Newport Beach respectively.  Today we have our third match of the week against Northwood HS at Strawberry Farms Golf Course.  The last match against Northwood at Oak Creek, we did not have 2 of our starters.  Today we will be in full force and looking for some payback!  Wish us luck!  Go Trojans!!

Boys Lacrosse

The University Boy’s Lacrosse team traveled to Canyon View Elementary to take on the Northwood Timberwolves on Wednesday. The game was a very spirited contest. Northwood would be leading at halftime 6-4, after a back and forth first half. The Trojans came storming back in the third quarter tying it up 6-6. Ultimately the game would come down to a few missed opportunities for the Trojans losing 8-11.

Girls Lacrosse

Come out and support the Girls tomorrow as they take on Dana Hills in the Uni Stadium at 4:00 p.m.  Good luck girls!

Varsity Softball will be playing Corona del Mar today at home at 3:30.  Come out to the Softball fields and show your support!

Boys Swimming

The Trojan boys swim team continued their league meet season with an impressive victory over Irvine yesterday. This was an all-around solid team meet, with time improvements and strong swims coming top to bottom. Sophomore Lukas Johansson had a particularly good swim, posting a lifetime best in the 500 free. The underclassmen boys will be facing Portola today, then the whole team will be facing Woodbridge next Wednesday. Go Uni!

Girls Swimming

The girls swim team returned after break for a tough away league meet against a strong Irvine High team, with all three divisions, Varsity, JV and Open falling to the Vaqueros.  A few bright spots in the meet were season best times by Kate Weiland in the 200 IM, Alondra Ortiz in the 100 fly, Claire Jang in the 100 free and Marta Meinardi in the 500 free.

The swim team travels to Portola HS today for a non-league meet, then will host Woodbridge next Wednesday for the last home meet of the season when the seniors on the team will be recognized.

Boys Tennis

The boys tennis team came back from Spring Break with a match against Beckman on Tuesday.  Jack Wheeler and Noah Schneiderman came in and won a big match against the #1 doubles team to lead the Trojans to a 15 to 3 win.  Senior Sam Topper won his two sets in singles and Michael Rudin and Luis Moros won their two sets in doubles.  On Wednesday the team traveled to CdM to take on the 2nd ranked team in Orange County in a much anticipated match.  With the match tied at 2-2 seniors Patryk Kozlowski and Julian Lafond continued their undefeated season defeating CdM’s top team in a tiebreaker to give the Trojans a 3-2 lead.  Uni swept all 6 sets in the 2nd round to take a 9-3 lead in a match that was tied 3-3 after the 1st round.  Naevin Anukornchaikul (Johns Hopkins) led the Trojans winning all three sets at singles while only losing 3 games!  Junior Aditya Gupta (UPenn) also swept his three sets playing #1 singles.  Freshmen Rithvik Krishna defeated Cdm’s top player in the final round for his second win of the day.  The Trojans moved to 5-0 in league play and 15-1 overall.  Uni is the #1 team in CIFSS DI and has not lost a Pacific Coast League match in 12 years (113 straight wins).  The boys are back in action today at home against Northwood.

Track & Field

The Boys Track team had a Tri meet with CDM and Irvine prior to spring break with over 500 hundred athletes from all 3 schools. The meet was scored as two different dual meets and the boys lost both by less than 5 points. Some of our outstanding performances came from our 4 x 100 relay team (Qaisi, Tang, Koo and Lake), Ryan Duffy and Adam Gish in the 1600, Charlie Feuerborn and Ray corpus in the 110 HH, Jeremy Koo and Daniel Vilchis in the 400, Faris Qaisi and Austin Lake in the 100, Lee McEligot and Adam Gish in the 800, Micheal Wu in the 300 H, Faris Qaisi and Matt Tang in the 200, Raja Batra in the 3200, Juan Rodriquez in the long jump, Aaron Huang in the triple Jump, Evan Pariser and Sam Kammerman in the high Jump, Joshua Thai in the shot put. We have a bye this week but will return to competition next week here against Woodbridge as our GOW. We also have 14 different boys competing at the OC Track Championships this weekend at Mission Viejo High School. Go Trojan Track and Field!

Uni Girls Track competed in a Tri-meet against Irvine and CDM on 3/29. Although we lost to CDM, our varsity girls took the win against Irvine with some strong individual performances. Freshman Collette Lowengrub continues to impress, as she won both the 1600 and 3200 events. Sara Sussman took first in both the 400 and 800, Lauryn Wood won the 100, Katherine Loritz won the high jump, and Harini Venkataganesh won the shot put and took 2nd in the discus. Other top performers were Avery Klauke, Sandy Zhang, Mollie Kessler and Amber Sun. We look forward to watching many of these girls compete at the Orange County Championship meet this weekend. GO UNI TRACK!
