In league play baseball split with Northwood but took the overall season series 2 games to 1. Adam Axtell picked up his first win in his first Uni start and the offense came alive in game 2 at Northwood. The offense continued to roll against CDM on Saturday but dropped a pair of contests as CDM capitalized on a couple big innings. Trojans are currently in a tie for fourth 1 and 2 games back from 2nd and 3rd. Junior Faraz Markazi was a highlight going 5-9 at the plate with 4 walks on the week. Axtell went 5 innings 1 earned run in his win vs. Northwood.

The boys golf team is currently undefeated in league play. They are 3-0 in league and 4-1 overall. This past Tuesday, they beat Irvine High School 198 to 232. The team was led by freshman Jacob Fox who shot an impressive 1 over par 37. His low score also gave him low medalist honors.
Today, they will go on the road to take on defending PCL Champion Woodbridge at Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course. This will be a tough match. Woodbridge has won the league championship the last 3 years and is still the team to beat this year. The Uni boys will all need to bring their A game to have a shot today.
Next week is spring break so the next match will be 4/9 against Beckman High School at home.
The next Boys Lacrosse game is set for Wednesday, April 10th at home against Northwood. Varsity game starts at 4:00 PM with JV following at 5:30 PM.
Girls Lacrosse is continuing their fine form and remain undefeated in league play. The Lady Trojans played host to Irvine on Monday and despite the hospitality, Irvine left with a bitter taste as they fell 15-1. Mya Wang (So.) led the team with five goals and Irvine couldn’t apply much pressure as Wang, Elliot Welsh (So.) and Kaylor Chott (Sr.) kept winning draw after draw, controlling an astonishing 71% of the draws overall. Nine different players found the back of the net.
On Wednesday, the team travelled to Woodbridge for a long anticipated match. Woodbridge has had a strong season and is home to the league’s #1 goal scorer, so the girls knew it would be a challenge; and they met that challenge! Mya Wang helped tremendously by securing an absolutely incredible 90% of the draws, allowing Uni to break out to a 3-0 lead in the first few minutes. Woodbridge was not deterred, and the #1 scorer did not disappoint as she quickly found the back of the net twice, bringing Woodbridge to within one. However, amazing defensive play and measured controlled allowed Uni to keep scoring, and at halftime, the ladies led 8-4. The halftime talk centered around how Woodbridge was a second half team, and how the girls would have to work hard to make sure they didn’t get back into the game. And that is exactly what they did. Led by defensive captain Donia Mohtashami (Sr.), Talia Abunimeh (Sr.), Mackenzie Field (Sr.), and goalie Gracelyn Caceros (Sr.), Uni held Woodbridge to only 3 second half goals, while adding five of their own. Makenzie Kaufman (Jr.) and Olivia Biase (So.) added three goals a piece to their scoring records to make it a memorable evening for the two. Uni was victorious, 13-7. It was an awesome win for the team and they can head into Spring Break for some much needed recovery and rest.
The team travels to Northwood after the break and then plays Beckman at home (our GOW) on Friday, April 12th…we’ll need your support so please come out and cheer on the team!
Softball heads to Bill Barber Park Stadium for a league match up with Woodbridge today at 5:00 PM. Good luck to the team!
The Uni Boys Swim Team has started to pick up speed as they enter their Pacific Coast League season! After defeating Portola last week, the boys’ team claimed substantial victories over Irvine in all three competition levels (Open 87-67, JV 109-61, Varsity 116-54). Placing 1st or 2nd overall in at least one individual event were Aaron Lee, James Koga, Hunter Kroll, Caedon Ng, Luke Venzlaff, Youssef Youssef, Brian Lou, & Sidney Miller. Additionally, all of Uni’s “A” relay teams placed 1st in their event, and the relays as a whole outscored Irvine 26 – 16. The Trojan swimmers look forward to a couple weeks of hard work, before returning to league meets against Woodbridge and Beckman. Come out to support us at our next home meet against Beckman on April 17th!
When the Irvine High School Vaqueros came to swim against the Trojans on Wednesday (3/27), University High School declared the meet the Game of the Week. Throngs of fans crowded into the pool area to watch the heated competition, cheering wildly with every well-executed flip turn. They were not disappointed, as UNI’s Varsity Girls won more than their share of close and extremely exciting races. Alex Lindenberg scorched to victory in the 200 Freestyle, posting a time of 2:01.49, and later achieved a personal best while winning the 500 freestyle, followed by Savanna Cruz who took second place. Annika Nie swam her best times in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events. UNI’s 200 Freestyle relay team beat its seed time, posting a CIF consideration time. The breastroking crew of Mirabella Levine, Yuuri Yoshikawa, and Kate Weiland swept the top three spots in the 100 yard event, with Mirabella achieving a consideration time for CIF. We know that nothing comes easy in the competitive high school swim season, and that UNI’s varsity girls are willing to put in the effort needed to excel.
The top ranked boys tennis team defeated Beckman on Tuesday to remain undefeated in league play with a record of 5-0. This past weekend the boys took part in the National All-American Tennis tournament in Newport Beach. The 2nd seeded Trojans defeated Brophy Prep from Arizona in the first round 8 to 0. In the 2nd round Conrad Brown won his singles set to give Uni a tight victory over Bellarmine College Prep. Unfortunately, the boys lost a close match to Torrey Pines high school in the semi-final.
The boys will be back in action today against Northwood.
